Oak Meadow Homeschool

SCHOOL ENROLLMENT: HIGH SCHOOL

Our goal is to help high school students become self-directed human beings who can express their unique perspective effectively in the world and create purpose and direction in their lives. To accomplish this, we will encourage students to reflect deeply and articulate their ideas with clarity and confidence. Our curriculum is built upon solid academic standards and challenges students to engage in a meaningful and personal education.

Enrollment in Oak Meadow High School gives students freedom to learn in their own way, while receiving academic credit and support as they learn. A variety of enrollment options is available, and you can customize course enrollment to meet your student's unique needs. High School enrollment is on a course-by-course basis.

In addition to curriculum materials and teacher support, Oak Meadow provides enrolled high school students with the following:

  • College admissions support, including letters of recommendation
  • Official transcripts
  • Assistance with Work Permit documentation
  • A diploma and graduation ceremony in Vermont for all graduating seniors

There are two options for High School Enrollment, and they vary by course material:

High School Printed Courses

Your children will send their lessons to their teachers by email or postal mail, usually on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, and their teachers will return lessons promptly. Teachers review lessons, provide comments and evaluations, and strive to develop and deepen their relationships with their students.

High School Online Courses

Our online courses offer a self-directed, independent study format and a teacher test-grading service. We recommend online courses for credit recovery or highly motivated students, since they do not provide teacher support other than grades for the work completed. Full credit is granted for online courses.

Independent Study Credit

In addition to receiving academic credit for our own courses, your students can also receive academic credit for a wide variety of activities through Independent Study Credit.

Some of our students are skilled athletes who have achieved prominence in a wide range of activities including tennis, golf, karate, chess, race-car driving, dressage, figure skating, and snowboarding, becoming Junior Olympic champions and Olympic competitors. Oak Meadow students have written and published books, performed in symphony orchestras, created award-winning videos, and acted in films and on stage.

With our Independent Study program, your students can explore their own interests through community service projects or by taking elective courses in their community while earning credit towards graduation.

Graduation Requirements

For students who are planning to graduate high school with Oak Meadow, we require a distribution of academic subjects that will provide a comprehensive and challenging high school education, as well as a well-rounded transcript for college entrance requirements. Completing the required number of courses in each subject area, combined with a balanced schedule of electives, languages, and independent study, will fulfill the prerequisites for most undergraduate institutions.

Students who wish to receive a high school diploma from Oak Meadow must complete a minimum of 21 credits. (One credit equals a full-year course, or two semesters.) Whether you are taking online or traditional courses, the credits earned and courses required are the same.

Students must take at least three courses per year to be listed as full-time. Graduating seniors must be full-time students to receive a diploma.

If you are transferring to Oak Meadow from another accredited school, please contact our registrar. We will need to evaluate prior coursework to determine which Oak Meadow courses you will need to take in order to graduate.
